1. Overview

Siberson Veriket Data Discovery is an enterprise-grade data discovery solution designed to locate, inventory, and risk-score sensitive data wherever it resides across the modern organization — from endpoints and mailboxes to file shares, cloud collaboration platforms, and structured databases. The output is a continuously updated map of where regulated and business-critical data lives, who can access it, and how exposed it is — providing the factual foundation that every downstream control (DLP, access governance, data classification, retention) depends on.

This article summarizes every platform supported by Siberson Veriket Data Discovery, organized by deployment context. Use it as a quick reference when scoping a discovery program, preparing an RFP response, or planning phased coverage across your environment.

In Scope of This Document This reference covers endpoint, office, cloud, file-storage, and structured database platforms supported by Siberson Veriket Data Discovery. Persistent labeling, visual markings, and at-creation classification controls are intentionally out of scope here and are documented separately in Siberson Veriket Data Classification.

2. Platform Coverage Map

Siberson Veriket Data Discovery delivers native coverage across five functional groupings: endpoints, office and email, cloud collaboration, enterprise storage, and structured databases. The table below is the canonical list of supported platforms, organized by category and annotated with supported versions and the integration method used to connect Veriket to each platform.

Use this table as a single-source reference when scoping a discovery program, preparing an RFP response, or validating that an existing environment is fully covered.

3. Endpoint Platforms

Endpoint coverage is delivered through a lightweight Veriket discovery agent that performs scheduled and on-demand scans of local file systems, browser caches, sync folders, and locally cached mailboxes. Unlike a real-time enforcement agent, the discovery agent operates on a non-intrusive scan model — building a per-host inventory of sensitive content and reporting findings to the central console without altering the underlying files.

3.1 Windows

The Veriket Windows discovery agent provides the deepest discovery integration in the portfolio. It scans local drives, mounted volumes, OneDrive and Google Drive sync folders, locally cached PST/OST mailboxes, and common application data directories — building a complete inventory of sensitive content stored on the endpoint.

4. Office Productivity & Email

Veriket delivers first-class discovery integration with the tools where the majority of sensitive content is authored and exchanged — Microsoft Office and Exchange. Mailboxes, archives, and document stores are inspected with native parsers that extract message bodies, headers, and attachments for evaluation against the discovery rule set.

4.1 Microsoft Office (Desktop)

The Veriket discovery agent scans Microsoft Office desktop artefacts at rest — opening Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook files locally and reporting any findings to the central console. No add-in is required; discovery operates against the file system, not the running application.

Supported Applications

APPLICATION DISCOVERY FEATURES OUTPUT
MS Word Document body, headers, footers, comments, and revision history are inspected Inventory entry + risk score
MS Excel Cell-level scanning across worksheets and named ranges, formula and metadata aware Per-cell finding report
MS PowerPoint Slide content, speaker notes, and embedded objects scanned per deck Slide-level finding map

6. Enterprise Storage & Data at Rest

Much of an organization's most sensitive data lives in unstructured form on file servers, network shares, and cloud-based storage — often outside the awareness of the security team. Veriket provides a dedicated scanner service that discovers, inventories, and risk-scores this data in place, producing the foundation for compliance programs, data minimization initiatives, and risk-based access reviews.

6.1 File Server

The file-server scanner connects to SMB/CIFS and NFS shares using service credentials and performs policy-driven discovery of every file within scope. Scans can be scheduled, throttled, and scoped by path, file age, file type, or ownership — and produce a complete sensitivity inventory of the share.

Supported File-Server Platforms

  • Windows File Server (Server 2016 and later)
  • SMB / CIFS shares on NAS appliances (NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, Nutanix Files)
  • NFS shares on Linux-based storage and NAS appliances
  • Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces

Key Capabilities

  • Scheduled and on-demand scanning with rate limiting
  • Per-file findings recorded centrally with content snippets and match context
  • NTFS / SMB ACL inspection alongside content findings
  • Detailed scan reports with sensitive content inventory by share, folder, and owner
  • Scanner can be scaled horizontally for very large estates

6.2 Data at Rest Discovery

Beyond the named platforms above, the Veriket scanner engine supports generic Data at Rest discovery — the ability to reach into any location where unstructured data is stored and inventory it in place. This is the foundation used to extend Veriket to emerging storage platforms and custom integrations.

Typical Discovery Targets

  • On-premises file shares and archives
  • Cloud object storage (S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage)
  • Document management systems with accessible APIs
  • Backup and archive targets

Scanner Engine Capabilities

  • More than 400 supported file types for content inspection
  • OCR for image-embedded text in scanned documents and PDFs
  • Regex, dictionary, exact-data-match (EDM), and AI-assisted classifiers
  • Parallel scanning with configurable concurrency and throttling
  • Incremental scans that re-process only changed content

7. Structured Data Sources

In contrast to Siberson Veriket Data Classification — which focuses on unstructured content authored by end users — Veriket Data Discovery extends coverage into structured data tier: relational databases, NoSQL stores, cloud-managed databases, and modern data warehouses. The discovery engine connects to each source through a native driver or vendor API, samples records at configurable rates, and applies the same regex, dictionary, EDM, and AI classifier set used for unstructured content.

Why structured discovery matters Most regulated personal data — TCKN, IBAN, credit card numbers, health identifiers — ultimately lives in databases. Without structured discovery, the sensitive-data inventory is incomplete, KVKK and GDPR Article 30 records of processing cannot be properly populated, and downstream controls have no factual basis. Veriket Data Discovery closes this gap by scanning the structured tier with the same engine that scans documents, mailboxes, and shares.

7.1 Relational Databases (RDBMS)

Veriket connects to relational databases using native JDBC and ODBC drivers and an account scoped to read-only permissions. The scanner enumerates schemas, tables, and views, samples rows according to the configured sampling policy, and applies content classifiers to every column. Results are produced at the column level — including the matched data type (e.g. TCKN, IBAN, email) and an estimated row-level prevalence.

Supported Engines

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022
  • Oracle Database 12c, 19c, 21c, 23ai
  • MySQL 5.7, 8.0, 8.4 and MariaDB 10.x, 11.x
  • PostgreSQL 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17

Key Capabilities

  • Read-only service account connection — no write activity to source databases
  • Schema discovery with table, view, and column enumeration
  • Configurable row sampling (fixed N, percentage, or full table)
  • Column-level findings with data-type confidence and row prevalence
  • Throttle controls to bound scanner load on production systems

7.2 NoSQL Databases

For document, wide-column, and key-value stores, Veriket uses each engine's native driver to enumerate collections or keyspaces, sample documents, and inspect every field — including nested objects and arrays. Schema-on-read sources are handled via dynamic field discovery: the scanner builds an effective schema from sampled documents and reports findings against it.

Supported Engines

  • MongoDB 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, 7.x (self-managed and Atlas)
  • Couchbase Server 7.x

Key Capabilities

  • Native driver connection with read-only role binding
  • Recursive inspection of nested documents and array fields
  • Effective-schema construction for schema-less stores
  • Incremental scans using oplog, change streams, or modification timestamps

8. Supported File Types

Veriket's scanner engine supports more than 400 file formats across documents, email, structured data, images, archives, database exports, and specialized engineering files. The table below groups representative formats by content category — showing the file types Veriket can parse, the common extensions, and the inspection mode applied to each format.

Inspection Modes

Full text — entire file contents are extracted and inspected against classifiers. OCR — image-based content is processed through optical character recognition before discovery. Metadata — only structured metadata fields (author, tags, EXIF) are inspected. Recursive — container is opened and every contained file is scanned individually. Structured — record-oriented data is extracted by schema and inspected column-by-column.
